7 Weeks!

Today marks 7 weeks! There have been a lot of changes happening to me since last week. I have been feeling pretty yucky most days. I am affected with nausea quite frequently throughout the days. Luckily, I have not actually gotten sick its just been a bad case of nausea.

Here is what is going on with the baby this week:

The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you're daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, your baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.

If you could see inside your womb, you'd spot eyelid folds partially covering her peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of her nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of your baby's brain are growing, and her liver is churning out red blood cells until her bone marrow forms and takes over this role. She also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in your baby's growing intestines is bulging into her umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from her tiny body.

I am looking forward to the doctors appointment on Thursday... well most of it at least. The blood work, although needed, is going to be the worst part... ugh!

Trip to Pittsburgh

I am back from Pittsburgh. I spent the weekend in PA with Mindy for her Bridal Shower! I was a little nervous about the flights because I already get sick on planes and to throw a pregnancy in the mix I was afraid for my life; or at least the lucky person sitting next to me. As it turns out, with a little bit of Dramamine and my ipod I made it through all 4 flights without getting sick! Whew!

Before I left for Pitt I had not felt any morning sickness. I was hoping to go through the weekend with out any symptoms; not the case unfortunately. I have come to learn that my nausea is brought on by an empty stomach, onions, and cesar dressing (I am just thinking I am going to have to eat bland for the next few months). Hopefully now that I know what triggers it I can stay away.

I had a GREAT time with Mindy! Her shower was a lot of fun. It was a huge turnout and she got lots of fun gifts! As she opened her 4th gift of towels her little nephew Chase asked "Mimi, how many bathrooms do you have?" ~Kids they are so cute!

I miss college but I miss Mindy more. It was very refreshing to spend the weekend with her hangin out like old times! I can't wait to do it again! I will get to see her for her wedding in November... about 2 months away!

Joe and I are looking forward to our 1st doctors appointment this week! It can't come soon enough!

My First One

So Amanda wanted me to put down some of my thoughts on this whole "having a baby" thing so here I am. It has been an interesting adjustment so far. It is amazing how different your world feels knowing in another 9 months it is going to be upside down. I have been around 3 of my friends while their wives have been pregnant and have been overwhelmed everytime I see their newborn. Babies are an awesome thing... and if you ask Amanda that is what she will say my response to the news was, "That's Awesome."

As awesome as the thought of bring a new life into the world I am scared. Don't get me wrong I look forward to screwing them up so bad they are going to need counciling for the rest of their life but it is going to be a while until we get to that part. I am also not looking forward to sharing my toys (the perk of having a girl) but I am sure Amanda will make me.

I am not really sure what else I am suppose to put on this post (this is the first time I have even been on a blob let alone written on one) but I figured I would start with this little bit of rambling and go from there. I am sure you will get to hear more from me as the time goes on.

In summary I would like to condence my post into 3 little words... Happy and Scared. Good night.

6 Weeks Along!

Today marks 6 weeks... about 34 weeks to go! A lot has happened since the 5 week update (to the little baby at least)

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute -- almost twice as fast as yours -- and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

Also, the legs and arms look more like paddles; and by the end of the week they should be moving around a little. The heart will be developing the right and left chambers. Ashely and Britt will like this one; the tongue and vocal chords are beginning to form!

Today I feel great! I have been feeling super bloated these last few weeks. Uncomfortably so! Today I feel normal, I can wear my jeans without any discomfort which is great! I plan to take Aria for a nice long 3 mile walk when I get home; baby likes a little bit of exercise! Baby also has been enjoying lots of cold things; water, ice cream and fudge pops! Can't get enough cold on my tongue!

5 Weeks is coming to an End

We are almost through week 5! Time is ticking by and it still is hard to believe that we will be a family of 3 next year!  I have copied some info on what is going on with the baby development in week 5...

Deep in your uterus your embryo is growing at a furious pace. At this point, he's about the size of a sesame seed, and he looks more like a tiny tadpole than a human. He's now made up of three layers — the ectoderm, the mesoderm, and the endoderm — which will later form all of his organs and tissues.

The neural tube — from which your baby's brain, spinal cord, nerves, and backbone will sprout — is starting to develop in the top layer, called the ectoderm. This layer will also give rise to his skin, hair, nails, mammary and sweat glands, and tooth enamel.

His heart and circulatory system begin to form in the middle layer, or mesoderm. (This week, in fact, his tiny heart begins to divide into chambers and beat and pump blood.) The mesoderm will also form your baby's muscles, cartilage, bone, and subcutaneous (under skin) tissue.

The third layer, or endoderm, will house his lungs, intestines, and rudimentary urinary system, as well as his thyroid, liver, and pancreas. In the meantime, the primitive placenta and umbilical cord, which deliver nourishment and oxygen to your baby, are already on the job.

So I have decided to work on becoming a coupon queen. I heard of this great website http://www.southernsavers.com/. This morning I sat with my computer and printed out coupons and mapped out my afternoon grocery shopping. I went to Publix and Bi-Lo... spent about 1 1/2 hours (its hard to get the darn coupons organized... I was struggling). I picked up $175 worth of grocies, spent only $110... saving $65. AMAZING! I got food for all this week and then some! It was a very successful trip... especially for my first time coupon clipping. It is like a game and I can't wait to see what I can save next time!

Ocean Isle to Babies R Us

Our trip up to Ocean Isle was great! It is always so fun to visit with Mindy and her family! We left at 6:30am this morning along with everyone else! For them it was a 12 hour car ride home and a 4 hr one for us. It turned out that it took us nearly 9 to get home though. We never make it to civilization so when we found ourselves in Charleston we hung around there for a while.

What better thing to do then to stop by Babies R Us... I know it is way to early to be thinking about these things (and yes we left the store without buying a single item). It was hard though because in out exploration around the store gathering ideas of what kind of investment a child is going to be I came across... and fell in love... with this bedding set! I have to admit it was hard to leave it behind; not to mention my fear that it may not even be in the store or discontinued come the time we would want to buy it! It became increasingly hard to get it off my mind when I came across the pack-n-play, bouncer, swing and highchair that matches! Oh geez!

I knew I would be in trouble if we didn't leave so I agreed to leave the store empty handed.

But on the positive note,  I now have an idea for the bedding and I can start to think along those lines. For those of you who are interested I have attached a link so you can ohhh and ahh over it too :)

Headed to Myrtle Beach Today!

I am so excited for today! Joe and I are headed up to Ocean Isle NC today (that is near Myrtle Beach). Mindy and her family are in town and so we are headed up for 2 nights to visit. I couldn't sleep last night I was so anxious because I have not told Mindy about the baby. To top it off I get to do it in person! I will be in her wedding on November 5th (I will then be around 16 weeks). So I am hoping and praying that the dress I ordered will fit next week when I got to try it on! It is a little mom n' pop shop so I don’t know what kind of policies they have for pregnancy so we shall see! If I have to rush order a larger size I guess that is what is going to happen! Lets just keep our fingers crossed that it all works out!

We Have our First Follower!!

I was so excited today to see that we have our first follower for our blog... Auntie Ashley!! Thanks Ash! I am sure once this news goes a little more public I hope to get more!

Things have been going well! I spent a good portion of the day researching baby names. I can't help myself! Now I just have to get Joe excited for baby names! I think he is trying to keep from getting too excited at the moment... doesn't want to get his hopes up in fear of this pregnancy not working out. I understand his fear. It sure is hard to keep this a secret!

Week 5

Week 5 starts tomorrow... check this video out!

Video - Pregnancy week 1-9

Some Symptoms Already

So I was talking to Bridget this evening and I was thinking about some of the symptoms I have had or are experiencing right now.

Back when I was in Ohio I had a bunch of dizzy spells, I was getting out of bed and stumbling sideways to the bathroom and just bending over and coming back up I felt really faint... I have not felt too dizzy as of lately but who knows what is to come!

First day of crazy... at least I think so but Joe would argue that I am always this way... hehe. So when I got home this afternoon I was frantically looking for my wallet! I was on the phone with Target and Joe and I just had no idea where it had gone. I thought I was going nuts! So I about gave up and I slammed my hand down on the dish towel laying on the coffee table and there was my dang wallet; underneath... Grrr! So I can and tell Joe I found it and started crying as I explained to him that I needed him to come to the vet with me to get Aria's medicine. I couldn't handle her on my own! He kinda laughs and tells me to breathe and calm down. Ugh! I think it is going to be a long 9 months on emotional breakdowns (over silly stupid things).

Ready... Set... Wait 9 Months...

Hello and welcome to our journey! I know most of you are reading this blog weeks after the first post. We decided to wait a little while to go public on this news but I do hope you enjoy!

My husband Joe and I found out Friday, August 13th 2010 that we were pregnant! (How weird that is was Friday the 13th... I guess not always unlucky!)

The night before I had gone out and bought a pregnancy test. My monthly visitor was just a few days late so we figured we would test it out. 6:00am I woke up needing to use the bathroom so I ran in and got the test ready. Once I finished and put the cap on it only took about 20 seconds to show the positive result.

Shocked… I mean we were unofficially trying and did not expect things to move so quickly.

I danced around the bathroom for a few minutes trying to figure out how I was going to tell Joe. I didn’t know how he was going to react so and not to mention that it was 6am on a Friday morning (Joe doesn’t work Fridays so it’s his day to sleep in). So I crawled into bed thinking I would tell him when he woke up.

Toss… Turn… Smile… Sigh… Roll… Toss… Sigh…

OK clearly not sleeping I woke up Joe and told him and in his sleepy groggy voice… eyes not open he says “that’s awesome”. Later that weekend he still doesn’t recall his response.
We proceeded to tell our family… at 6:00am! I think excitement and shock were among the reactions but all in all they were very happy for us.

We spent the weekend cleaning out the two smaller bedrooms. There is a lot that needs to be done before our baby arrives so we started the long to do list Saturday! Joe and I are looking forward to our first Doctor Appointment, set for September 2nd.
